KORLE BU TEACHING HOSPITAL INTERDICTS TWO DOCTORS AND TWO NURSES OVER NEGLIGENCE

The Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on 23rd February, 2026 announced that two doctors and two nurses have been interdicted from their health facility over their failure and refusal to provide emergency medical care to a hit-and-run victim called Charles Amissah.

Charles Amissah was apparently reported to have gone missing. Not knowing, the 29-year old engineer was hit by car on 6th February, 2026, in which the driver also fled away. Reports indicates that, he was rushed immediately to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for medical assistance by compassionate helpers, but two doctors and two nurses who were on duty that fateful day had failed to assist the young guy instantly, leading to his death.

In response to the situation, Ministry of Health together with the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital had constituted a three-member high-level Investigation Committee to conduct a comprehensive and independent inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish concrete facts in preventing the recurrence of such ill attitudes usually demonstrated by some health professionals, hence forward.

The Committee which comprises of; Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosa (Pathologist and chairman of this committee), Dr. Henry Kwasi Bulley (Representative of Ghana Medical Association) and Dr. Koku Awoonor-William (Technical Advisor to the Health Minister), is seeking to examine the sequence of events, decisions-making processes and any other contributing factors that might have led to the delay in the provision of emergency care to Charles Amissah, causing his demise.

Ultimately, these members informed, will also assess the adequacy and effectiveness of existing policies, protocols and oversight mechanisms surrounding emergency healthcare deliveries at various health centers.

Korle-Bu on the other hand, called on all persons connected to the matter to cooperate fully with the Committee to ensure that, a fair and transparent inquiry is achieved. With the committee expected to submit their reports and recommendations to the Health Minister – Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on or before 5th March, 2026.
