A disturbing trend of violence in some Senior High Schools in Ghana, have raised serious concerns about discipline and safety in all Senior High Schools. Over the past, several incidents involving students assaulting fellow students including teachers, security personnel had surfaced in the media with punishment meted out to the culprits seen, yet the situation had kept recurring.
Just recently on 19th February, 2026, Obrachire SHS student called Akpaka Kobby Fiagegbe, was seen in a video been assaulted and bullied by fellow students of the Swedru School of Business (SWEBUS); where, they threw stones, sticks at this young student resulting in him being hospitalized. According to reports, the assault occurred during a District Schools Athletics Games at Agona Swedru; usually organized to promote youth talent and sportsmanship. But here lies the case where, these students rather portray opposite of what is required at them during these sporting activities. They go there to bully, assault, misbehave or better still, murder their fellow students all in the name of being “hard guys”. This is really alarming and unsettling; which needs serious attention by the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Police Service.

Speaking to the victim – Akpaka Kobby Fiagegbe, he was seriously attacked by these SWEBUS students for no reason; other than he searching for a place to sit at the games grounds. This boy had since, received severe injuries before been rushed to a hospital for treatment; with his eyes, chicks, nose and upper lips all swollen.
The public and citizens of Ghana are therefore asking the essence of education, if the educational system cannot put these defiant students in SHS to order. What is then, the essence of seeking education for pupils? Since, it has been indicated that the situation had continually been recurring; resulting in loss of lives in some part of the schools – some ask; is it the “absence of no teacher caning student at schools anymore”, causing the rascality, villainy or this wickedness among students?
From evidences also, it has been noted that these students seem fearless of the law and orders laid out in the schools; to the extent that, some have even assaulted some teachers and heads of these schools, without severe punishment meted out on them. Which is why, the general public are demanding that, the Ghana Police Service should treats these students with heavy retribution and possibly jail every student found guilty when such cases emerges.
Alternatively, some members also suggested that the Ghana Police Service should do well to conduct thorough investigations to bring all those responsible for the mistreatment of the Obrachire student to Justice; and must ensure to lay out decisive measures or steps to prevent the tragedy from happening, hence forward. “The situation is becoming unbecoming, barbaric, heartless as no student deserves such treatment from fellow students to cause them injuries or end their lives in the process”, said a National.
