The Ministry of Transport in a Press Release yesterday, has announced that, Kotoka International Airport has now been officially renamed as Accra International Airport (its original name for that matter).
They addressed that the facility was previously known as Accra International Airport before its rebranding. So government has considered it appropriate, to restore the Airport to its original and internationally recognized name. Since already, there have been several debates from the general public through calls and messages to rename the Airport; with some suggesting the rename to be after Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah (Ghana’s first President).
Furthermore, the Ministry informed that the rename is not going to affect the Airport Operations, safety standards or international travel arrangements. Noting that, the Airport code as “ACC” will still be within the records of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). However, the implementation of this renaming is going to involve a systematic update of all official documentations, statutory instruments where necessary; including areas like the airport signals, digital platforms, aviation publication and all other related communication materials associated with travelling arrangements.
Thus, they encouraged the general public, stakeholders and international partners to do well in conforming to this current update by supporting, cooperating with relevant authorities, to ensure that everything becomes smooth with a seamless transition.

Background
