Johnson Aseidu Nketia – the Ghanaian politician and Chairman for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as at 23rd February, 2026, publicly lashed out some disruptive comments made by certain individuals about his sense of dressing for an international visit. The politician emphasize that the trip to Germany with the President and some officials was for work-related reasons and not necessarily to go show off ones fashion sense, as circulated.

This viral discussion got into the public domain as a result of the Chairman seen wearing his wife’s winter jacket; which he stated categorically that, he found it unnecessary to go shopping just for a two-day work visit. For that reason, it is unreasonable for some people to pass impertinent remarks, on the jacket he worn at the trip, as it sounds completely inappropriate and childish. Further, he addressed that, individuals who feels travelling with a President demands styling to perfection, must know they are completely misaligned in their expected duties. This is because as leaders in government, the main focus is to build competencies, gain expertise or cultivate skills to advance or elevate the country to greater heights of standards; and not necessarily to be paying attention on best clothes to wear to events. As such, if those individuals do not know what it meant to be a leader and their expected duties, they should do well to consult him (Asiedu) for tutorials and not to be in their comfort zones making irrelevant remarks on others dress sense.
Apart from that, the chairman stressed on how some people like Maxwell Kofi Jumah in the opposition party who was one of those commenters, embezzled tax payers money during his tenure in office as Managing Director (MD) for GIHOC DISTILLERIES COMPANY LIMITED. Asiedu indicated that, Maxwell’s embezzlement of funds attributed to the high degree of debts acquisition been experienced by government, today; which NDC is still paying and clearing those debts. Meanwhile, Maxwell isn’t worried about these incurred debts on government, but rather focusing on his dress sense to an event, he slammed. Again, Johnson added that, Maxwell throughout his term in office as MD ensured to take about GHS10million as his per diem every week. So it is now convincing that he had a lot of tax payer’s money to go for shopping during travels with his government, but currently, he wants to inform Maxwell and the others that, his government and him do not intend to misplace national priorities. More importantly, he and his government have important and better things to use their salaries or monies for; and not to do some head out shopping just for a two-day international visit.
Finally, he stated that, he had always been travelling internationally with his wife’s winter jacket, which under normal circumstances, makes him to also feel comfortable. Therefore, he will continue to wear his wife’s winter jacket so long as it gives him the very warm feeling of an atmosphere, when worn. Additionally, some Ghanaians also felt happy with the Chairman’s responses and applauded him for stating the truth on his mind concerning this matter without sugarcoating it. In their words, they were like – “Precisely, this should be the mindset of leaders; and for a developing country like Ghana, the focal point should be on developments as he rightly said, and not on fashion sense or styling preferences”.
