The former President of the Ghana Football Association who doubles as the founding member for the New Patriotic Party (NPP); Dr. Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe has alleged that former President of the Republic of Ghana – JJ Rawlings demise, was not caused by any COVID-19 outbreak but rather he was actually assassinated. The founding member expressed these claims on 31st March, 2026 during an interview with Ismail Akwei, a host for Lowdown Ghana Web TV.
According to Nyaho, Rawlings death was not as a result of any COVID-19 or whatsoever as purported and that, checks from his cousin – Michael Sousoudis revealed that, Rawlings was actually tested negative on two separate tests that were carried out on him as far as COVID-19 was concerned. He explained that the previous government only used the opportunity of COVID-19 outbreak to create an impression for the public to believe COVID-19 was actually the cause of Rawlings death; whilst the opposite was the case.
From Nyaho, information reached him that a doctor (name withheld) who was involved in Rawlings’ care indicated that five nurses (names withheld) who were assigned to attend to Rawlings at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, immediately disappeared and were quickly flown out of the country, shortly after the news of JJ’s death. He actually stated that he is challenging these five nurses to come out and refute his allegations if they are false.
Moreover, Tamakloe asserted that during the announcement of Rawlings death, some senior military officers (names withheld), also reacted to the news he found suspicious. This is because, when these two captains in the military he knew met, their impression was loud and clear that indeed Rawlings was murdered. That is to say– these military officers shook hands and said to each other – “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”. According to him, this statement alone, ‘speaks volume’ or means a lot and carries a strong weight on Rawlings demise; which he feels thorough investigations needs to be undertaken to apprehend the perpetrators.
In addition to this, he also called for an independent probe from authorities regarding this allegation and informed that, he will continue to reject any suggestions or claims that attribute Rawlings death to COVID-19.
