The Parliament of Ghana as at 12th May, 2026 has announced and confirmed that Hon. Kwame Ohene Frimpong – Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North has been detained at Schipol Airport, Armsterdam in the areas of Hague in Netherlands.
The MP was reported to have been arrested by Authorities in Netherlands because; he is connected with a long-running international investigation linked to the FBI. In other words, Kwame is said to be in custody of FBI because, he is involved and suspected in a case relating to financial crimes including money laundering, romance scams which are said to be allegedly totaling to an amount of $32million.
With this information, the general public is questioning why the international governments feels they can request the arrest of any African nationals as they deem fit where the reverse is never the case for their nationals or officials. Many are asking that as a Sovereign country like Ghana, it should be treated with respect and under no circumstance should its nationals or public officials be “plucked away or arrested in traps set in abroad”, but must do so with respect for the country at large. This is because, it is understood that they might have withheld such critical information from Ghana’s intelligence services and laid traps outside for its officials in order to arrest them in the process. Literally meaning, these international countries do not regard Ghanaians since there is no courtesy of prior communication to the Ghanaian Government concerning this particular issue about Kwame Ohene Frimpong.
However, many have also questioned why the Honorable Member – Kwame Ohene Frimpong usually likes travelling outside the country and wondering if indeed his reasons for travelling are as a result of these allegations leveled against him. Others are also concluding that perhaps the source of his income might have been in connection with these crimes leveled against him in lavishing his lifestyle.
“Stop envying people’s wealth, you may never know their source of income. But rather focus on your life and let the little you earn or have be content to you to enable you transform into a better version of yourself. Especially, through determination, dedication, Perseverance and positive means, one can also become financially stable”, said a national
