Popular nollywood actor; Alex Ekubo has died at age 40 on 12th May, 2026, sending shockwaves through the Nigerian entertainment industry and drawing an outpouring of grief from fans and colleagues across Africa.
This information was known after reports circulating across sections of Nigerian media particularly from BroadwayTV indicated that, Alex was rushed to a hospital in Nigeria on Monday when his illness became severe and was immediately placed on a life support systems and machines for couple of hours but could not survive it, than to pass away at the early hours of Tuesday. His death was then announced that evening by Talent Manager and filmmaker – Sam Olatunji; who confirmed the news via Facebook.
The source of this information also indicated that the actor had been struggling with severe kidney complications, with some reports suggesting his illness to be linked with Kidney cancer. But as at the time of publication concerning his demise, no official confirmation from his family, management team, or medical authorities has been communicated regarding these claims. However, one of his colleagues called – Stanley Ontop; a close associate to Alex said that the actor had secretly been battling with kidney cancer since 2024 and according to reports, Ekubo underwent kidney transplant but complications arose after this operation, leaving his condition to worsen or even deteriorate until his passing.
Stanley therefore has urged all to respect his family’s privacy and refrain from spreading unverified claims.
Aside that, speculation surrounding Alex’s health reportedly intensified in recent months after fans noticed his prolonged absence from the social media space. Where even, according to checks referenced by Nigerian blogs; Alex Ekubo’s last public post online in terms of Instagram and Twitter (X) was made on 30th December, 2024 and 28th April, 2025 respectively, triggering concern among followers and colleagues to believe that he was indeed having health issues.
In the weeks before Alex’s demise, a viral clip also emerged where he was seen interacting with a group of children and noticeably appearing slimmer than before, with a triggering of wave in emotional reactions from fans to question his health but there was no response with regards to that,; and this sudden news has since left all to be dumbfounded and deeply sad of his demise.
