The President of the Republic of Ghana; His Excellency John Dramani Mahama as at today in Korea has officially commissioned a new Sahara LPG Vessel to mark as a major step towards strengthening Ghana’s energy infrastructure and to support the transition of a cleaner energy sources in Ghana and across West Africa.
Addressing the public, Prez Mahama described the development of this commissioning as an approach to ensure a reliable energy supply chains especially, for countries that solely relies on imports. He mentioned that this “Vessel” is a form of practical steps to enhance energy in West Africa or Africa as a whole; and that these efforts are also a way to contribute in building an inclusive energy transition to benefit both present and future generations.

According to the President, Ghana like many of the other neighboring countries recognizes LPG as a transformative potential to support socio-economic developments particularly, in the parts of powering industries and improving household energy accesses, both in rural and urban communities. LPG has become an important component of the broader energy strategy to transition from traditional, polluting biomass fuels (wood, charcoal), to a cleaner or more efficient energy sources, he said.
Also, he mentioned that while Ghana produces locally about 50% of LPG requirements, the country still relies on imports for the additional 50% of local consumption. Comparably, other countries across the sub-regions also continue to expand accesses to a cleaner and a more reliable energy from various producers, as well. From the President, the facility deployed together with the 6000 metric tons storage facility in Accra, therefore, will increase the overall LPG storage facility in Ghana to 40,000 metric tons, providing the country a significant buffer for the future. In other words, this development is going to serve as a historic milestone for Ghana, Africa and their quest to secure access to energy for all.

Thus, the President addressed that this commissioning will not only become an asset at the sea but will eventually, form a stronger foundation for Ghana’s energy in the future, as well. Whereby, this decisive step taken, will forwardly help in building a resilient, modern or a more secure down streams sector to strengthen other infrastructures like the “Dada Paint – The Global Liquefied Petroleum Gas Supply Chain”.
Most importantly, Prez Mahama concluded that this celebration is a deliberate action to support Ghana to have access to clean energy through a liquefied petroleum gas. Additionally, this “vessel” is to serve the good people of Ghana with clean, stable, safe and efficient energy supply chains both in their households and in their various businesses. “Saharan Group Limited is taking Ghana once more towards an energy security, to sustain an economic and daily life for all”, he said.
